Padmavati or Padmavat or Padmaavat is officially India’s most controversial film with life threats to actors/directors of the film and The Supreme Court of India stepping in to settle the matter. The Padmavati Controversy Reason is just a clash of inflated egos over a harmless statement. Whatever the ulterior motive of Karni Sena might be, it has been interesting to see how an issue of this magnitude can cause such a massive storm. Hardly anyone heard about Karni Sena before the controversy and it is their extreme reaction that is keeping them in the news and it is highly likely, they will no where to be seen once this pass.
WHAT IS THE STORY OF RANI PADMAVATI?
This is an excerpt from the Wikipedia article about the story of Rani Padmavati
“Padmini, also known as Padmavati, is a legendary 13th-14th century Indian queen (Rani). The earliest source to mention her is Padmavat, an epic poem written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540 CE. The text, which features elements of fantasy, describes her story as follows: Padmavati was an exceptionally beautiful princess of the Singhal kingdom (Sri Lanka). Ratan Sen, the Rajput ruler of Chittor, heard about her beauty from a talking parrot named Hiraman. After an adventurous quest, he married her and brought her to Chittor. Alauddin Khilji, the Sultan of Delhi also heard about her beauty, and attacked Chittor to obtain her. Meanwhile, Ratan Sen was killed in a combat with Devpal, the king of Kumbhalner who was also enamoured with Padmavati’s beauty. Before Alauddin Khilji could capture Chittor, Padmavati and her companions were forced to commit Jauhar (self-immolation).
Several subsequent adaptions of the legend characterized her as a Hindu Rajput queen, who defended her honour against a Muslim invader”
Rumours are rife that the controversy over the movie by Sanjay Leela Bhansali is due to the outrageous content used in the movie but one thing should be clear that rumours are just rumours and nothing else. How can a clan create a ruckus over the content of the movie just by looking a few posters and trailers without knowing the original content used? The reality is that the people who are the limelight in controversy do not know anything about the movie and the roles that Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor are going to play in the movie.
The Real Story – Ranveer’s Statement to the media
The actual story behind the controversy was cooked up over a trivial issue which was aroused out of an interview with Ranveer Singh before the shooting started for the movie. The person who is leading the rally, the patron member of Karni Sena Lokendra Singh Kalvi cleared that the issue is started out of nowhere. While answering a question to the media, Ranveer Singh humorously said he would leave no stone unturned if he is given two intimate scenes with the lead actress when asked about the role of the villain he is going to play in the movie. The interview was videotaped and was sent to the Karni Sena and this is how the controversy picked up.
The video was not taken lightly by the Karni Sena leaders and they started shooting messages and emails to Sanjay Leela Bhansali asking for clarifications. The producer never gave them any response. One interview was also scheduled with the Karni leaders but the meeting never happened. Kalvi said that he understands these are busy people but they could have easily taken out some time to talk to us and the matter would have been cleared then and there only. The Kalvi Sena then instructed the producer that he can do anything with the film but he should enter the land of Rajasthan.
As per Kalvi, the matter was small and it could have handled wisely but they were taken as small people who do not require any clarification. Ranveer Singh must have said that statement due to his terms with Deepika but the world does not know about it. Had the meeting happened, things would have been cleared easily without any further nuisance. From that small point, the protest has reached this stage today.
Kalvi agreed that he has a political past and he has led many political rallies and that he was leading this protest rally against ‘Padmavati’ as well. He agrees that this protest has given great publicity to the movie and the producer.
Kalvi is too happy to see the government supporting his rallies and joining his ‘ban Padmavati’ squad. It is no less than a victory for him that the politicians and the government are urging the centre to hold the release of the movie. It is magic that government and politicians are too fearful of his protests.
Kalvi is not a big fan of movies and the last movie he watched when he was in VII standard.

If by a freedom of speech and expression, a piece of art, sentiments of many are hurt, where does the real sense of art and freedom sustain? Freedom and art must be practiced with a sense of responsibility and respect.#Padmavat #PadmavatiControversy
