In a Landmark Judgement, Supreme Court Bans ‘Triple Talaq’

In a landmark decision today, Supreme Court of India has declared “Triple Talaq’ Illegal, which could heral d the end of a long argued law that violates the right to equality.

From the 5 judges hearing the case, 3 ruled it unconstitutional.

“The Government should find a way to frame new laws”, 3 judges said.

After 6 days of hearing, that included some of the top lawyers of India argue whether triple talaq was necessary for Islam or not, Justice Kurian Joseph, Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman and Justice UU lalit ruled in favor of the ban of centuries old practice.

Freedom of Religion is absolute.. but what is bad in theology is also bad in law. What is bad in Quran, can’t be good in shariat,” Justice K Joseph said.
